Day 1 Arrive in Jackson (Sat.) Welcome to the all western-town of Jackson! Mix and mingle with your Tour Director and traveling companions at tonight’s welcome dinner. Board a covered wagon and ride into beautiful Cache Creek Canyon for a CHUCKWAGON COOKOUT and Wild West show. (D)

Day 2 Snake River Adventure (Sun.) Today, set out on a RIVER ADVENTURE in a comfortable raft that takes you beneath the towering peaks of the Grand Tetons. Your experienced Local Guide will point out the flora and wildlife indigenous to the area. The afternoon is free in Jackson to explore the shops and museums of historic downtown. This evening, you may opt to stroll along the downtown boardwalks and enjoy dinner at one of the swing-door saloons. (B)

Day 3 Journey Inside Yellowstone National Park (Mon.) Head north through GRAND TETON NATIONAL PARK and on to YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, established in 1872 as the world’s first national park. Admire famous Old Faithful geyser that has been erupting consistently for more than 100 years. Take a scenic drive, stopping at Fountain Paint Pots where you will see four of the geothermal features: fumaroles, geysers, hot springs, and a bubbling mudpot. At Mammoth Hot Springs take a short trail walk through steaming limestone terraces before rejoining the loop road to enjoy photo stops at Yellowstone River’s Lower Falls—almost twice as high as Niagara. Day 4 Exploration of Yellowstone (Tue.) Time today to explore Yellowstone’s beautiful backcountry. Perhaps stroll along the Firehole River to one of the park’s backcountry geysers, visit remote bubbling mudpots, trek up a mountain pass with breathtaking scenic views, or hike through wildflower-filled meadows along a cool, sparkling creek. Be ready for fun and adventure as you immerse yourself in the natural wonders of Yellowstone’s wilderness. (B,D)

Day 5 Experience Buffalo Bill Country (Wed.) Near the east exit of the park, watch for wildlife as you leave Yellowstone for Cody, named after dashing Buffalo Bill Cody. This afternoon, visit the BUFFALO BILL HISTORICAL CENTER, which interprets the history of the American cowboy, dude ranching, Western conservation, and frontier entrepreneurship. Later this evening, we have reserved Grandstand tickets at the CODY RODEO for you. In the “Rodeo Capital of the World,” witness America’s original sport with fearless bull riders, high flying broncs, brawny steer wrestlers, and daredevil rodeo clowns—the action is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat! Day 6 Explore Little Bighorn Battlefield (Thu.) Enjoy this morning’s scenic drive through the Bighorn Mountains on your way to the LITTLE BIGHORN BATTLEFIELD. Tour the battlegrounds where Custer was defeated by approximately 7,000 Lakota, Cheyenne, and Arapaho warriors, and visit the museum. Continue on to the cattle town of Sheridan. (B,D)

Day 7 Visit Crazy Horse & Mount Rushmore Mount Rushmore (Fri.) Journey through the rolling hills of Wyoming’s Powder River Basin and the Black Hills, arriving in South Dakota. Day 2 Rapid City The day begins with a visit to CRAZY HORSE MEMORIAL, built in honor of the fearless Sioux Indian chief whose fame is derived from the Battle of the Little Bighorn. Afterward, explore MOUNT RUSHMORE NATIONAL MEMORIAL, which features the monumental likenesses of four U.S. presidents—Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln, and Theodore Roosevelt—carved on the face of a mountain. Maybe stroll along the Presidential Trail for more intimate views, or visit the information Center. (B)

Day 3 Rapid City–Sheridan This morning, enjoy a drive through BLACK HILLS NATIONAL FOREST and experience the area’s colorful history with a tour of DEADWOOD, once a wild gold-mining town, and hear the stories of legendary Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane. Afterward, visit TATANKA, “The Story of the Bison,” and experience the richness of the Lakota people, a Plains Indian buffalo culture. Then continue through the Black Hills to the cattle town of Sheridan, which sits at the foot of the Bighorn Mountains. (B)

Day 4 Sheridan–Little Bighorn Battlefield–Cody Journey this morning into southern Montana to visit LITTLE BIGHORN BATTLEFIELD, the site commemorating one of America’s most famous battles. Travel along Grand Loop road to Artist Point on the south rim with magnificent views of Yellowstone Canyon and the spectacular Lower Falls, almost twice as high as Niagara Falls. Day 6 Yellowstone National Park–Grand Teton National Park–Jackson Journey south this morning into breathtaking GRAND TETON NATIONAL PARK. Visit beautiful glacier-fed Jenny Lake at the foot of the rugged spires for a delightful walk along the shore before ending the day in the all-western town of Jackson. Day 8 Jackson–Salt Lake City Today’s journey continues alongside some of Wyoming’s most beautiful mountain ranges into Utah, home to five national parks. Arrive in Salt Lake City, founded by Brigham Young in 1847. Enjoy a sightseeing tour of the capital city and its historic monuments. (B)

Day 9 Salt Lake City–Bryce Canyon Today, travel through sagebrush landscape to BRYCE CANYON, a national park with a beauty all its own. Take a leisurely drive with photo stops to capture the bright red, yellow, and pink pillars called “hoodoos.” The balance of the day is at leisure and your overnight is at the entrance to Bryce Canyon National Park. Day 10 Bryce Canyon–Zion National Park–Lake Powell Travel to ZION NATIONAL PARK, with its dramatic landscape of sculptured canyons and soaring cliffs resembling temples and cathedrals. With your sightseeing tour, you’ll have an opportunity to experience the park up-close and personal. Then continue into Arizona and the town of Page, nestled on the shores of Lake Powell. Day 11 Lake Powell–Painted Desert–Grand Canyon This morning, you may wish to join our optional flight over Monument Valley for a bird’s-eye view of the red sandstone monoliths, made famous by many western movies and shows. Afterward, cross the Painted Desert, with its ever-changing color scheme, and catch your first glimpse of the world famous GRAND CANYON, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. An afternoon arrival allows plenty of free time to explore the canyon rim on your own. Be sure to take an evening stroll to savor the magnificent sunset. Day 4 Step Back in Time at Colonial Williamsburg (Tue.) Enter COLONIAL WILLIAMSBURG’S HISTORIC AREA for a guided tour where costumed villagers add to the authenticity. Stroll down its quaint streets, browse through the Historic Trade Shops, and see the Public Gaol. Also be sure to drop in at Raleigh Tavern, the meeting place for Thomas Jefferson, Patrick Henry, and other patriots. While here you will have the chance to vote for or against independence, or join the militia, or participate in the Election of Burgesses. This afternoon is at leisure or you may join an optional excursion to nearby Busch Gardens with thrilling rides and attractions, ten main stage shows, a wide variety of authentic foods and shops. Day 5 Jamestown Settlement (Wed.) At JAMESTOWN SETTLEMENT, costumed historical interpreters depict daily lives of people two and three centuries ago in faithfully re-created settings—a Powhatan Indian village, three replica ships that sailed from England in 1607, and the colonial fort. In 2007, Jamestown will be celebrating its 400th anniversary of the founding of America’s first permanent English colony. Many special events, exhibits, and educational programs will be available. Travel much the same route as Lee’s army during its invasion of Pennsylvania. Enjoy photo stops and panoramic vistas from Skyline Drive in beautiful SHENANDOAH NATIONAL PARK where you will stay for the night. (B,D)

Day 6 Walk the Battle Lines of Gettysburg (Thu.) Today continue across Maryland to GETTYSBURG NATIONAL MILITARY PARK for time to vividly recount the Battle of 1863 and examine the experiences and emotions of the Southern soldiers in battle. This evening enjoy a colonial candlelit dinner at the elegant Dobbin House Tavern, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Later a guided GHOST TOUR takes you to some of the quaint houses and gentle fields in and around the town of Gettysburg where scores of haunted sightings of soldiers, moving again in battle lines, are common. Day 7 Hershey’s Chocolate World and Amish Experience (Fri.) Travel to Hershey, Pennsylvania, and visit HERSHEY’S CHOCOLATE WORLD. Experience chocolate-making from bean to bar at a simulated factory and of course get a sample of the real Hershey’s product! Day 3 London-Bath-Bristol (Sat.) Meet your Tour Director and traveling companions and depart London at 8 a.m. for a memorable day’s sightseeing. Take a stroll in picturesque Salisbury with its vast cathedral, the ultimate in Early English Gothic; try to figure out the riddle of STONEHENGE; in the elegant Georgian city of Bath see the amazing excavations of the ROMAN BATHS. Tonight’s destination is Bristol with its historic harbor from where John Cabot sailed in 1497 to discover America. Day 4 Bristol-Cardiff, Wales-Waterford, Ireland (Sun.) On your Bristol orientation tour focus on Brunel’s daring Clifton suspension bridge and SS Great Britain. Cross the Severn Road Bridge to the Welsh capital. An orientation drive here features the major attractions: Cardiff Castle, Cathays Park, and the stately civic buildings. Continue along the South Wales coast to Pembroke where your ferry will be waiting. Day 7 Dublin-Belfast, Northern Ireland-Edinburgh, Scotland (Wed.) Landscapes strewn with Ireland’s typical round towers line the route northwards, crossing the River Boyne and over the border into Northern Ireland. Skirt the Mountains of Mourne and in Belfast where the Titanic was built, take in the city’s vibrant history and view the impressive City Hall. Day 8 Edinburgh (Thu.) Morning city sightseeing with a local expert introduces you to the 200-year-old “New Town” and famous scientists, inventors and novelists. In the “Old Town”, drive up the narrow Royal Mile to EDINBURGH CASTLE to admire Scotland’s Crown Jewels. The afternoon is free to enjoy this “Prince of Cities” at your own pace or maybe join an optional excursion to Rosslyn Chapel made famous by The Da Vinci Code novel. Later inspect a section of Hadrian’s Wall, the Roman coast-to-coast defense against marauding northern tribes. In York, England’s most complete medieval city, stand in awe in front of the great structure of York Minster, then follow your Tour Director through a maze of quaint streets including the narrow Shambles. Day 10 York-Stratford-London (Sat.) Skirt Robin Hood’s Sherwood Forest on the way to Stratford-upon-Avon.
